The armed conflict between the Order and Lithuania

In April 1370 several km away from Königsberg German knights had an armed conflict with Lithuanian troops not far from a little village Rudau.(nowadays Rudau is a village of Melnikovo which is 1,5 km away from Muromskoje station on the way to Zelenogradsk.) According to the legend some Hans Sagan, a poor shoemaker from Kneiphoff had an honour in this battle. During the attack he managed to grab the falling knights’ standard, and having raised it highly above his head rushed to the enemies. For his feat of arms he was rewarded with the title of nobility and was called Hans von Sagan. The rumour was that it was he, who had brought the victory over the Lithuanian cavalry.
