The Chathedral on the island

The fortress on the Kneiphoff island was founded in 1325. In 1333 the Grand Master of the Order Luter von Braunschweig gave his consent for the continuation of building of the church. The first version was realized during 1333-1345 years. Later the church had been named as the Cathedral, apparently because the district canon authorities were located there. Afterwards the Cathedral had several redesignings and it had kept up to 1945. In 1980’s it’s ruins were laid up, but nowadays the Cathedral is restored and there’s a museum inside. As for Luter von Braunschweig, his remains were buried in the sanctuary part of the cathedral.
