The foundation of Königsberg

The Fortress of Königsberg was founded by the Meister of the Teutonic Order Peppo Ostern and the Czech king Przemyslaw the II Otto Kahr. By the 1261 the building of the wooden fortress had been finished and the construction of the stone one was begun. The very first edifices built near the fortress which are worthy of notice are the Steindamm church and the water-mills. The Alstadt, Kneiphoff and Löbenicht settlements, where the merchants, journeymen, craftspeople and knights were living, had appeared around almost simultaneously as the building of the fortress.
