Gotfried Gerder

Johann Gottfried Herder, German philosopher, critic and aesthetic, a friend of Göte, had graduated from Königsberg university. In 1764-69 he was working as a priest in Riga, since 1776-in Weimar. He has written a treatise about the descent of the language. He was also collecting and translating folk songs. A. S. Pushkin knew the works of Herder excellently and mentioned his name in “Eugene Onegin” (chapter 8, line 35).N. Karamzin had even visited Herder in Weimar in 1789.
