Königsberg during World War the II

During the war there had been many concentration camps on the Königsberg territory, the prisoners were doing laborious works. They were dying of illnesses, starvation, and the cruel treatment of the guard. The first time the city had dealt with the war was in july 1941, when the soviet air force had made it’s first bombing attack on Königsberg. In the autumn 1941 the war-planes of The Red Army had appeared again and were bombing the area of the Juzhny railway station and the Ratshoff (near the car-plant). The next bomb raid was in spring 1943, the castle area was attacked, the telegraph office and the area of the central telephone exchange also. In 1944 English air force has made two attacks (from the 26’th to 27’th of August, and from the 29’th to the 30’th) and has almost razed the city to the ground. On the 9’th of may during hard battles the Königsberg fortress had capitulated. The commandment of the fortress general Läsch told the command of the land forces of Germany in radiogram that the fight for Königsberg is over, that there was no more ammunition and that the food stores are burnt…
