Oleg Borisovich Glushkin

Oleg Borisovich Glushkin was born in 1937 in Velikie Luki, the Pskov region. During the WWII he was evacuated with his family to Ural. In 1960 he graduated the shipbuilding institute in Leningrad. He was engaged in literature association at Lenizdat, was an editor of the student magazine “Sigma”. He moved to Kaliningrad in 1960 by assignment. His first stories were published in 1962. Then he wrote a true story about factory life, and after that publishing houses were closed for him for 12 years. During this period he was a participant of seminars and conferences of young writers of the North-West (Leningrad) and marine writers (Arkhangelsk, Murmansk, Moscow). In 1985 he was admitted to The Union of Writers. From 1985 till 1990 he leaded the youth literature association “Parus”. In 1990 he became a chairman of the literature organization in Kaliningrad. In 1991 he founded the magazin “Zapad Rossii” and was its editor-in-chief till 1996. He implemented the Russian part of the project: work anthologies of writers have been living and are living now on the territory of the former Eastern Prussia. The book is published in 4 languages. He was awarded diplomas and a gold medal for the implementation of the project and making a contribution to the development of culture in the Kaliningrad region as well as for expansion of contacts between the Russian and the European cultures. He compiled and fulfilled the publishing of collected memories of survived ghetto and concentration camps’ prisoners “Bleeding Memory of Holocaust”. Now Glushkin is working on sketches about famous Russian people whose activity was connected with Eastern Prussia. More than 30 sketches are already written and published. At present he is a leader of the Baltic Navy literature association.
