Vyacheslav Ivanovich Karpenko

Vyacheslav Ivanovich Karpenko was born in 1938 in Kharkov, later was evacuated, so that he grew and finished school in Ural. He worked in geological expeditions in the North, studied in Leningrad (St Petersburg) at the Navy School and university. He graduated higher literature courses in Moscow, served in the Navy and sailed in Murmansk and Kaliningrad. He worked at the newspaper “The Kaliningradsky Komsomolets”. In 1967 after the failed attempt to hinder the pulling down of The King’s Castle of Koenigsberg he had to move to Alma-Ata, where he worked at newspapers and magazines (“Novyj Film”,“Prostor”). 9 books of stories and fairy tales were published in Kazakhstan and Moscow, films and TV programmes were shot after his scripts. After 30 years he came back to Kaliningrad with “Drugoy Theatre”, where he was the head of the literature department. He is a member of the Union of Journalists since 1965 and a member of the Writers’ Union of the USSR since 1984. At the moment he holds positions of the chairman of the regional organization of writers in the Kaliningrad region; the editor-in-chief of the magazine “Zapad Rossii” and the head of the literature department at “Drugoy Theatre”.
