The Kings Gates

It was named “König Gates” in 1811 in honour of king’s ceremonial passing through the gates for military exercises and parades on the Dewau Groung. Authors of the project: General Ernst Ludwig von Aster, front elevations Friedrich August Stuler, sculpture – Wilhelm Ludwig Sturmer. The stage of modernization of Gates started in 1843. Peter the Great passed through the Gates many times. The ramparts were torn down on the both sides of the Gates in the beginning of the 20th century. The tram ways were placed there. The statues of King Ottocar II Bohemian’s, king Friedrich I and Duke Albrecht were placed on the city side of the façade in 1852. On 10th February 2005, the gates were passed on to the Museum of the World Ocean for creating “The Grand Embassy” historical and cultural center.
