Fort № 5 King Fredric- Wilhelm the third

It’s situated at the Kaliningrad departure, to the left from the road to Svetlogorsk. The Fort was constructed in three levels and surrounded by water ditch. Depots and storehouses are far below it. Little under the level of soil there are prisons barracks and adjoining to it inner courtyards. Ordnance by inclinational post was lifted to open positions on the Fort roof. Floor, approximately 6 meters width consisted of brick masonry, concrete, soil floor. Walls were 4 meters width and in two times thinner from the rear side. There was electric power station, workshops, hospital. Garrison was manned by 300 men; it was armed by 8 field- guns, 26 mortars, 60 submachine guns and more than 200 rifles. The Fort №5 was captured on the 8th of April in 1945. 15 Soviet warriors were awarded by the golden star of the Hero of the Soviet Union medal for the Fort №5 seizure. Memorial of the Fort was opened on the 9th of May in 1973.
