The Kronprince Defensive barrack

It was built in 1843-1848. The Kronprince barrack (“hereditary prince”) was named after the hereditary prince Vilgelm, who was crowned in Kongsberg in 1861. He became the Emperor of Germany 10 years later. The barrack which structure allowed carry on circular defense was created as a strong fortress. After finishing the construction at the fort was garrisoned Kongsberg’s best troops. Before the WWII there were police unit stationed in the fort. After the war military units occupied the fortress. Later the whole complex was given to civilian units for scientific and educational institutions. At present there are private firms and storehouses there.
