The monument of Barklay-de-Tolli in Chernyakhovsk

The Barklay-de-Tolli’s carriage made an emergency stop at the Zhilyaitshen settlement in 25th of May 1818. Now it’s poselok Nagornoe. Michail Bogdanovich an outstanding commander and Russian statesman of XIX century made his way to Germany for medical treatment. But his health became worse and worse every day. He had pain in the chest. Barclay was carried to the nearest house. That evening he died. There was constructed a fout-meter monument on the Barklay-de-Tolli’s place of death. It was made on the Friedrich Wilhelm’s III money. The monument is still now. The author is a famous German architect and artist Karl Friedrich Shinkel. There were two notes on the monument both in Russian as well as in German languages.
