The Regional history museum of Bagrationovsk

The permanent exhibition was opened on September the 11’th 1993. Nowadays the museum exhibition tells about the history of the territory, where the Bagrationovsk district is located, focusing the attention on it’s most vivid periods and facts: the conquest of the Prussian lands by Teutonic knights and the foundation of the very first towns, the famous Preusich-Ailau battle in 1807 and the war memories of World War the 1st, the battles in the Heidelberg fortification area in 1945 and the foundation of the Bagrationovsk district of Kaliningrad region. The basic museum stock counts more than 4 000 units of issue. There are many unique and interesting ones among them, for example, the coin treasure of the XVIII century found in the Preusisch-Ailau castle, the author’s collection of the war-historical miniature, the finds from the Preusisch-Ailau battle field, the decorations of Russia, Prussia and France of beginning of the XIX century, the collection of the gravures, which are depicting the events of napoleon epoch and others. The common exposure and exhibition area is about 200 m². The permanent exposure is located in three halls and tells about the basic stages of Bagrationovsk district history. In some halls the exhibitions of artists and applied art masters from Kaliningrad and foreign countries are held regularly. The international scientific conferences, dedicated to the events that happened on the territory of East Prussia during napoleon wars epoch are held in the conference hall of the museum. The war-historical festival “Ailau in 1807”, dedicated to the anniversary of the Preusisch-Ailau battle has become a traditional enterprise of the museum. The culmination of the festival is the reconstruction of the battle episodes at the original place by the war-historical societies of Russia, Byelorussia, Poland and Lithuania. There is also a war-historical society attached to the museum. The museum offers view and subject-matter excursions around the permanent exposure and exhibitions, the view excursion around Bagrationovsk including visiting sights.
