The National Park Kurshskaya kosa

The National Park Kurshskaya kosa was formed in 1987. It was on of the first National parks in Russia. The park’s area is 7890 hectares. There are three villages in the park. They are Lesnoe, Rybachiy and Morskoe. The Kurshskaya spit is a sandy peninsula. It is 98 km long and Russian part is 48 km. The breadth is 400 meters in the narrowest part of it and 4 km in the widest. The top of the peninsula is on the North near the Klaipeda city; it is separated from the mainland, its basis is near Zelenogradsk and sets against the Sambians peninsula. There is the drunken forest on the spit. There grow the pine-trees that are unsteady, Г-shaped fir trees and birches. All of them have branches only from one side. That’s why it has such name. It makes rather original nature landscape. The Kurshskaya spit has no prototype among similar things in Europe.
